Kano Police Warns The public About Political Violence in The State

On Monday, the Kano State Police Command issued a public warning about plans by some political party supporters to incite violence in the state.

The groups intend to take to the streets to protest the Appeal Court’s decision on the governorship election in the state, according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

He did, however, say that the command had taken appropriate security measures to prevent tensions from escalating and leading to a breakdown in law and order.

“It is on this note that the police command issue this warning to residents of the state to be extra careful as whoever intends to conduct any protest or procession should do so in accordance with the provisions of the law,” Kiyawa said in a press release.

Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, has urged residents to remain calm and avoid any form of unlawful gathering, protest, or procession that could spark violence. According to the spokesman, joint security teams have been deployed to strategic locations throughout the state to maintain peace and order.

“Whoever attempts to disrupt the peace in the state will be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law,” he added, urging residents to report any suspicious movement, persons, or items to security agents for immediate action.
