After missing the 2022 completion schedule, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced that the $2.8 billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline project will be launched in December 2023.
This was announced on Tuesday by Oritsemiyiwa Eyesan, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Limited, during the 41st Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists 2023 exhibition in Lagos.
Speaking on the topic ‘Energy Infrastructure Development, Financing, and Monetisation Strategies in Nigeria: Reducing the Risks of Entry,’ Eyesan stated that the company’s dedication to completing the project by December was a tribute to Nigeria’s Gas Master Plan.
“You will notice a significant difference in how we operate in the coming months because NNPC is poised to drive more investments into the oil and gas sector.” One such large investment is the AKK gas pipeline, which will be operational in December,” she explained.
Last month, during the Pai River crossing session in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Minister of State for Gas Ekperikpe Ekpo emphasized the need of completing the AKK project despite missing the 2022 earlier commissioning target.
The NNPCL started the AKK pipeline in July 2020, a 614-kilometer-long pipeline that would deliver natural gas from southern to central Nigeria.
