Court Extends Interim Order Restraining Police from Arresting Fubara’s Chief of Staff, Ehie

The temporary injunction requested by the Chief of Staff to prevent the Nigerian Police and other security services from arresting Rivers State Governor Edison Ehie has been extended by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt.

Following a protest from Counsel to Ehie, Demain Okoro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, who told the court that the applicant had been declared wanted by the police despite the interim order being served on them, the trial judge, Justice Sika Aprioku, extended the order.

Order 4, Rule 4c of the Administration of Criminal Justice, which grants Justice Aprioku the authority to prolong and renew orders in cases where an ex parte application is submitted, was sighted.

Judge Aprioku, who also made a decision regarding the request for a delay by the respondent’s counsel, Celestine Dickson, gave three days extension for the counsel to respond to the process while the applicant was given two days to reply.

The judge thereafter adjourned till the 15th of February, 2024, for the commencement of hearing of the substantive suit.
