Bauchi Governor Declares Support for Suspended Lawmaker, Abdul Ningi

The Labour Party candidate declared that it is imperative that every penny of Nigeria’s public funds be used for the benefit of the people in a statement that was uploaded to his X account.

The Senate’s decision to suspend the whistleblower in response to the claim that ₦3 trillion had been padded into the 2024 budget has not addressed important concerns that have arisen from the allegation, and the controversy surrounding it continues.

The Executive concurred that there was only ₦1.2 trillion padded, not ₦3 trillion as the Senator claimed, but the Senator is adamant about his assertion. New accusations regarding the Senate leadership’s haphazard and uneven distribution of constituency projects have also surfaced.

Budgit, a civil society organization, has released an official 2024, in which he asserted that the National Assembly added almost ₦3 trillion to the budget.

The Senate Appropriations Committee member Jimoh Ibrahim moved to suspend Ningi for a year due to charges of criminal disinformation and disturbing the peace in the National Assembly, following the senator’s indignation over Ningi’s remarks.

Revisions to Ibrahim’s motion were proposed by Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong of the Cross River South Senatorial District and Abdulfatai Buhari of Oyo North. Buhari suggested a shorter suspension period of three months, while Ekpenyong suggested reducing it to six months.

After a vote, Ningi was ultimately suspended for three months. In addition, he gave up his position as Northern Senators Forum Chairman.
