The passing of Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, the goalkeeper for the previous Nigeria U20 Women National Team, over the weekend was deemed “very sad” by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
After fighting cancer for around eight years, Aluko-Olaseni surrendered on Friday night.
“We are devastated to learn of Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni’s passing. The news of such a young woman’s passing is depressing. Even though she had been sick for a while, we were still holding out hope that she would get better and be able to continue pursuing her love and dream.
Her passing has left the Nigeria Football family and the NFF in mourning. We are pleased that she pursued her desire and passion to a certain extent, though. Our supplication is
NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi remarked on Monday, “that God grants her eternal rest and also grant those she has left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board and administration also conveyed their profound sorrow at Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni’s demise.
Aluko-Olaseni shown exceptional skills and an unyielding commitment to reach the pinnacle of her career throughout her brief tenure as a goalkeeper for the Falconets (the Nigeria U20 women’s team), according to a statement released by NWFL yesterday.
The former goalie played for a number of well-known teams in the nation, including Rivers Angels, Ekiti Babes, and Sunshine Queens.
