The commission disclosed 16 political parties are sponsoring candidates in Bayelsa State, 17 in Imo State, and all 18 parties are running for governor in Kogi State.
Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this in Abuja following a meeting to evaluate preparations for the off-cycle gubernatorial elections in these states.
“For the forthcoming elections, there are 1,056 862 registered voters in Bayelsa State; 2,419,922 in Imo State; and 1,932,654 in Kogi State, making a total of 5,409,438 registered voters for the three states.”
INEC issued the final list of candidates for the off-cycle elections in June.The current governors of Imo and Bayelsa states were among those named as candidates.
Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Douye Diri.
Timipre Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and former Bayelsa State Governor, is the APC candidate in the state, as is Dino Melaye, the PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, Usman Ododo, an APC candidate, and Murtala Yakubu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi.
