Alaba International Market Has Been Closed Due To Environmental Breaches

The Lagos State Government took strong action by closing the famed Alaba International Market in Ojo owing to its inability to follow appropriate trash disposal standards, non-payment of garbage fees, and serious environmental sanitation violations.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, confirmed the development in a tweet sent early Monday morning, October 23, 2023.

The market’s repeated disrespect for trash disposal processes and environmental rules has resulted in the shutdown.

He cited the market’s failure to meet its waste management duties as the impetus for this harsh regulation.

“Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills, and gross environmental sanitation offences,” the commissioner said in his statement.
