Niger Delta Leaders Visit Wike And Protest Efforts To Impeach Rivers Governor Fubara

Leaders from several ethnic groups in the Niger Delta have paid a solidarity visit to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for putting him in his cabinet.

The chiefs of the Niger Delta also thanked Wike on his appointment as minister.

According to a statement published on Saturday by Dr Kingsley Kuku, the 60-member delegation of renowned Niger Delta leaders was led by Prof A.W. Obianime, a former President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

On recent political events in Rivers, the leaders stated that the state is strategically important to the South-South region and cannot afford to stay in turmoil.

“Rivers State, like Lagos State, is very dear to the South West.”

to the Niger Delta. This is because, because an injury to one is a harm to all, we feel right in condemning the macabre dance that is taking place.

“We join PANDEF, INC, IYC, MOSIEND, MOSOP, Ogbakor Ikwerre, and all other responsible bodies in the Niger Delta in condemning the State House of Assembly’s mischievous attempts to impeach the State Governor on frivolous grounds of ‘gross misconduct.'”

“This is completely unacceptable to us and the entire Niger Delta.” “Any individual, authority, or group of individuals involved in stoking this fire is strongly advised to stop and allow peace to reign,” the statement stated.

According to the statement, Wike, as a political leader in Rivers, has the power to mediate peace.

His political proteges include both the executive and the legislature.

“When you speak to them, they will listen to you. Everyone is looking at you. Be the peacemaker you are and do everything you can to put out this fire before it gets disastrous.

“The consequences will benefit no one.” It would also reflect poorly on Rivers people in particular and Niger Deltans in general.

“Your silence will not be golden in this matter, and the world will think you’re playing the ostrich.”

“We plead with you to step into a peaceful resolution of this matter so that the Nigerian populace will not say that Pompey was drinking tea when Rome was burning,” the message went on to add.
