The Federal Capital will not be relocated to Lagos, as some have predicted, according to the Presidency.
This was said in a statement released on Wednesday on his official X Twitter by Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy.
Onanuga claims that people spreading rumors are dishonest, self-serving representatives of their ethnic and regional communities.
He asserted that those waging the deceptive campaign are aware that they are pitting the North against the South through risky tactics.
Due to legal support, Onanuga stated that Abuja is here to stay.
His remarks follow the recent transfer of the Aviation Ministry’s FAAN department to Lagos.
Insisting that administrative decisions not be politicized, Onanuga stated that many parastatals are not based in Abuja due to their mandate.
“President Tinubu has no plan whatsoever to move the Federal Capital to Lagos,” the statement said. During the campaign last year, opponents who were searching for every kind of weaponry to prevent him. We destroyed it.
“Ethnic and regional champions who are dishonestly trying to draw attention to themselves are the ones peddling it anew.” Abuja will remain here. It has legal support.
“Moving the Aviation Ministry’s FAAN section to Lagos—where it was housed prior to former Minister Hadi Sirika moving it to Abuja under the previous administration—does not equate to relocating the Federal Capital Territory to Lagos.
