Walid Regragui, the coach of Morocco, has accepted full responsibility for the team’s elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Regragui was present as Morocco was eliminated in the round of 16 after falling to South Africa 2-0 on Tuesday.
Sofyan Amrabat of Manchester United was sent off during the match, and South Africa defeated the Atlas Lions thanks to goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena.
During the game, Morocco’s penalty was also missed by Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain.
Regragui told beIN Sports, “At this level, you get immediately punished for any chance you waste. We could have maybe settled the game in the first half.”
“We were severely hurt by the penalty, and we undoubtedly did not comply with all requirements, but I accept full responsibility,”
