Gov. Adeleke: Remi Tinubu Once Protected Me from Media Blackmail

Governor Adeleke said that when the media caught him dozing off during a plenary session, he was spared from having to pay a hefty fine.

During his tenure in the Senate, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke disclosed that Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, saved him from possible media blackmail.

Speaking at a gathering honoring Senator Tinubu with the spouses of other state governors, Governor Adeleke related how she had stepped in to stop him when he was seen dozing off during a meeting.

He thanked her for her assistance and referred to her as his savior in that particular occasion.

“I want to welcome you to Osun State,” the governor remarked, as reported by Vanguard. You are a First Lady without tribal ties. She was, I recall, my senior coworker at the eighth

assembly; the media tried to extort me after they discovered me dozing off in the Senate. I explained to them how tiresome it is for us to create invoices and how many sleepless hours we spend worrying about Nigeria.

Most nights, we stay up until four in the morning. The media was not paying attention to me, and I nearly succumbed to their intimidation. I thus hurried to Mama (First Lady) and informed her I had a question for her before she left for Lagos. I told the reporters that I was sleeping, and they told me they had seen me dozing off and appeared to be trying to get something from me.

“Ma da won lohun” (don’t answer them), she said to me. Let them go and write whatever.
