Kyari: NNPCL Officials Blameless in Oil Sector’s Current Struggles

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari, has stated that the company’s personnel are not involved in the importation of substandard petroleum products into Nigeria. Kyari made these remarks on Wednesday in Abuja during a session with a Senate ad-hoc committee led by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, which is investigating alleged economic sabotage within the petroleum sector.

Kyari expressed that, as the GCEO of NNPCL, he has been the target of unfair media criticism from individuals attempting to paint the company as a saboteur of the nation’s economy. He emphasized the company’s integrity, asserting that NNPCL is “faithful and will not lie” to Nigerians.

“We are not criminals, and we are not thieves. We will protect our dignity so we can serve this country,” Kyari declared. He also highlighted the struggles within the oil and gas industry, mentioning that there are certain issues he is aware of but cannot disclose publicly until “the time comes.”

Kyari requested that future committee sessions be broadcast live for all Nigerians to follow.
